In most cases the easiest way to get Max.NET running is through the automated online or offline installer. In some cases, though, installing files manually might be required. For example, people managing custom deployment of files for their studio might need to get all the needed files ahead of time and put them into correct directories later. This document describes how to install Max.NET manually (without the use of an installer provided by us).
There are many 3ds Max versions supported by Max.NET. Moreover, each supported version can be 32 or 64 bit. It is important that you know which version of 3ds Max you're installing Max.NET for and that you download the correct build. The following table provides links to different builds based on 3ds Max version and bitness:
32-Bit | 64-Bit | |
3ds Max 9 and 3ds Max 2008 | Download | Download |
3ds Max 2009 | Download | Download |
3ds Max 2010 | Download | Download |
3ds Max 2011 | Download | Download |
Once the download is complete extract the downloaded .zip archive into a temporary directory. You should find the following files contained within it:
Files marked as (required) must be installed. The other files can be installed optionally or ignored. Copy these files to your 3dsmax installation directories such that their resulting match something like:
Note that Autodesk.Max.Wrappers.dlu can alternatively be placed into any path that you specify in your plugin.ini, however, all other files must be installed at the root level.
