Installing EPHERE License Server

License server is generally installed automatically with every product that uses licensing from our website. However, in some cases it might be necessary to install it separately. This might be needed, for example, when manually installing a product from our website. This document contains instructions on how to do this.

Picking licensing method

A single client can own multiple licenses of our product. Furthermore, a single client may own licenses for multiple products. There are two general way of handling the assignment of these licenses.

  1. First way is to install the license server in a 'node-lock' mode where it will be assigned only one product license. This way one license server can be installed in each workstation and work locally (without requiring a network connection)
  2. Second way is to have the license server contain all licenses at the same time and install it in a central location. This is referred to as a 'network license'. This requires each workstation to have access to the network license server but it also means that licenses are floating (machines can 'lock' and 'unlock' licenses in any order)

Installing license server

To install the license server you need to download and run the installer of the project you're setting up. For example, if you're installing Zookeeper you need to head over to its download page and download the online or offline installer.

During installation uncheck all options except for "Install License Server". This will skip all project files and just install the license server locked to licenses for that project on your computer. You may install the rest of the files separately later.
