Problem

Description:

Basically i as trying to fill a bowl with water, usgin PFlow, imediately after i press the record button it crashes..using standard settings no change..

I also tried using the PFlow just letting liquid fall on a ground object..after a few sims, the 3rd time or so, it crashed.

Also id like to ask, how to to use new mesher with PF?, i added PF Mesher on scene but it seems there is no icon much like foam object, but i dont know how to add PFlow to the mesher

tried Linking, nothing, also there is no picking button on its properties for picking (id assume) the PFlow

Steps to Reproduce:

Have you tried simulating the PFlow scene from the sample files?

https://www.ephere.com/plugins/autodesk/max/lucid/docs/1/Sample_Scenes.html

For PF Mesher, you just need to add it to the scene, it will pick up the Lucid's PFlow operator and mesh it automatically.

Hi Marcel,   With sample file it does not crash..i wonder why...anyhow, please see screenshot, when adding mesher by clicking in the perspective viewport (using sample file) the mesh is not oriented properly, one has to rotate 90deg to align..   Nildo

Another thing id like to be cleared up...when simming with your sample file, i could see the mesh around a particle...its measuring 10cm as per the radius setting, but really it should be 5cm radius shouldnt it? because if you take a tape measure and measure the "sphere" the mesh makes...it has a diameter of 10cm..not radius of 10cm...am I understanding this ok?

Nildo

You're right about the radius/diameter, we are trying to sort it out. What it should really say probably is particle "size", which means diameter.

Regarding the orientation of the PF mesher I need to push an updated build because I have since fixed that. In the deployed build it always resets the pf mesher to identity transform before simulation not giving you an ability to correct. Of course, a proper fix would be to take care of the transformations correctly internally.

Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.)

Yes, particle size would be better..

Good to know about the mesher fix.

is it possible to use more than one card to simulate? i have 4 gtx 780 6gb on an expander and 1 gtx780 3gb on pc..i know in octane that if i wanna use all cards..it turns to b 3gb..but if i turn off the 3gb one, i can render much bigger scenes..could i use all cards to simulate?

Nildo

I don't think it is possible to use more than one GPU, at least at the moment.

Do you think you can still send me that scene which crashes to marsel.khadiyev (at) ephere.com?

Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.)

Here is the scene, i noticed something...that right after i add the mesher to the scene and try to sim, it crashes..if i open the recovered max file, and sim again it does not crash anymore..this is a max 14  file btw..

Would it be possible to leave the stats on even after the sim ends? or have a toggle? its nice to see the info for future reference on sims

Im testing lucid either in 14 or 16

Would it not be better to have some sort of icon for mesher or foam just so we can see/select it in the viewport as well, not just thru navigator?

Also id like to ask, i noticed from the last video, that you are using a  gtx980m with 8GB RAM, so that leads me to believe you're using a laptop..can i know what laptop it is and what OS you are using? Im looking to buy a new one for me.

Marcel there's another thing that's bothering me...please see this image, i left Adhesion parameter at 0, but it still sticks to the sides of the Bowl..how can i fix this? if i put a different Adhesion value it sticks even more, meaning this parameter is working to some extent Nildo

Been trying to reproduce the crash with the scene which you attached but all seems fine even if I record and reopen it. I guess we'll need to keep trying.

I don't think adhesion is what's responsible for the particles "sticking" to the bowl. Have you tried increasing the number of substeps/iterations in that scene?

Regarding my laptop, I assembled it custom on xoticpc.com. I've been using them for years and they're great for getting custom specs for a laptop. I'm on Sager NP9772-S with 32GB ram and 3TB storage right now. Actually bought this laptop mostly because I needed a new video card for Lucid :)

Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.)

Must be something wrong with my pc then..

Yes i have increased substeps/iterations, but does not seem to fix the issue.

thx for the info on you laptop :)..its a bomb!
