Title:Lucid Record not recording Hair Sim
Category:Crash/Critical
Status:Fixed

Problem

Description:

When using latest lucid and latest OX to sim a part of the hair (with strand group option), record shows sim happening in viewport, but does not store, ie, if i scrub the animation hair is still not simulated.

but if I dont use the "strandgroup" option and simulate the whole hair (not what i want and it incorrect), record works...this is a bug I suppose?

Steps to Reproduce:

Hi Nildo,

I tried this one too, it seems to be working using strand groups, then I can drag the timeline to play the recorded sim with no problem (As you can see in the image below). Maybe this is a bug specific to the build you are using. Which Ox build are you using at the moment?

Damn..I cant get it to work..

using 5.1.5.11228, when I try on a sphere like u did..all works great.. when i try in my own file with spline based guides it does not work.. :(

I must have a ghost in the machine..I keep getting all these issues since i started using OX, feeling frustrated!!! :(:(.

Now after I tested the sphere and worked I went back to my max file tested it again AND NOW ITS WORKING!! :(:(:(:(:(.

By the way Jeordanis what do you use to capture screens? is that GIF's?  its useful to show my steps when i encounter an issue.

I'm glad its working know, I would like to know what is happening though, this is really strange. Please update your graphic driver and see if there is any difference.

I use Gyazo to record sections of the screen, sometimes I use Camtasia en export the video as a gif.

Me again! :).. Lucid not working Again..and this time Im not using splines imported to hair..Im using native Guides created from quick hair object and groomed them...see video, I also updated to lates nvidia graphics and yes :), using latest lucid and OX.

Edit: I also tried to SAVE the recording to a file but this time I chose to sim only a certain time range...the error attached happened and crashed my max session

Edit2: Installed Latest nightly and it also does not record the sim..not even in a separate file.

The only thing I can think about is a driver issue or something else related to your graphic card. I cannot reproduce any of the mentioned bugs, unfortunately. Please try to reproduce those issues in the test scene that I'm including here, then go to Lucid Global Settings, change the Base Library to Direct 3D and try again. Let me know your results.

Jeordanis Im sorry I missed your reply...I tried your file and perhaps i found something...when i opened your file I got a warning regardgin massfx, which leads me to believe that maybe Im using a diferent max 2017 version somehow :(, if I simulate your file ALL GOES WELL...i tried all 4 groups u created and they all work..but as soon as I MERGE MY FILE (with lucid applied to one of my hair objects) into yours, MAX imediately CRASHES :(.  this is the warning max gives me.. can u please tell me what u see in your about boc of 3dsmax this is mine.

EDIT: something VERY VERY ODD is happening..I opted to open my file, delete all lucid applied to the hair, saved this file...i then MERGED the objects into your scene and re-applied lucid to my hair..when I sim your HAIR will work but mine will not! :(

see max file attached please

That's odd. Please try to reproduce this with a sphere and upload the scene, I'll see how it behaves in my computer. My Max version is 19.0 Too.

here you go, if yours is the same max..then I really have no other idea! :(...

if you notice this max file is over 1MB so clearly something gets stored, but not displayed..if I clear the sim and save the file it goes down to about 700kb

Hi Again...just let you know that I have tried using the OTHER PC I have, and this problem still persists, I did a basic sphere and applied hair, selected hairs and assigned a group to them, it will not record the sim, only show it in the viewport.

same max version : max 2017 19.0 Update

6xGPU: GTX 1070

Windows 7 sp1

Lucid : 1.4.011331

Ornatrix: 5.1.5.11228

Hi Nildo,

Thank you again for the report. I was able to reproduce this and we are working on a fix. I'll keep you updated!

OUFF!!! :):)

Thanks for that follow up

I have to say...support like this, is what other companies should also do...thanks for the updated lucid, i will try right away and let you know :)

Thank you for the kind words. The fix should be included in the latest stable version: 1.4.1.11389

Jeordanis, its working on my test file ! :) thanks alot for your support...

1 Question is there a way to know what the group's ID's are AFTER making the groups without going back to edit guides mods and typing an ID and press select? it would avoid a few clicks :).
