Description:

If I turn on guide as hair, the render settings aren't working

Steps to Reproduce:

guides from surface -> hair from guides with guides as hair -> render settings ...

No hair...

Hi Gregory,

I just tried and it seems to be working fine here as you can see in this gif. Can you please reproduce this in a simple scene with a sphere and share it here?

it seems to be my emitter mesh that is messing with the modifiers. I had to extract the poly and reinject them as baseobject to have it work.

Can you show me a screen capture of your hair stack?

I keep having bugs, or misunderstandings.

Seems like the geometry gets broken and the channels aren't read properly after some editing with vertexColor.

For checking I started over for the nth time, and just adding a length modifier that should scale the guides by a factor of 3 is making them smaller...

I simply don't get it.

ok, it is because it is assigning a channel that doesn't exist anymore... annoying.

when you start over, the modifiers aren't reseted.

now I spoted the problem, if the vertex color is pure white, the guide get scaled with a step, probably between 254 and 255. like twice as big. it is ok if if I only have greys.

actually, no. it is still jumping like there is a remap when reading the channel. Very annoying.

I just spot the error in the lisener: hair bounding box is too big...

???

Here is the scene file.

I feel like I will have to plant the feather one by one, as longer ones need more space between them than short ones. with UV layout it doesn't make a continuous filling, it is impossible to have them placed properly.

And mapping bending is also not very convienient, same problem to have continuosity.

also this problem.

Hi Gregory,

You are right, the modifiers settings are not resseted when you created a new one. In the case of the lenght channel you have to go into the channel and press the Unassign button.

I just spot the error in the lisener: hair bounding box is too big...

This error probably have to do with the scene scale. I will take a look into it. Thanks for the scene.
