Problem

Description:

Hello!

Me again, here with my furry monster.

There is an issue a lot of people in my class seem to be having where when a character is animated, if geo compresses, the hairs switch to whichever guide gets closest to them, thus resulting in unattractive random flickering on the character. (of you look at the Left cheek of this character)

We have "remeber root positions" turned on and distribution type is at UV (the only one that seems to be working for us)

Steps to Reproduce:

take a referenced character with animation, and with groomed hair or fur and render it.

Hi Meg,

This is Ox for Max or Maya? I ask because last time you were using Ox for Maya and this post is in the Max forums.

Do you have Topology Based Orientation ON in GuidesFromSurface and HairFromGuides?

Whoops,

Yes it is Ox for maya. Let me redirect my report

I'm sorry,

actually it will not allow me to post a defect report in the ox for maya forum.

Should I contact you via email instead?

It's OK, we can do it here. Can you verify if Topology Based Orientation is ON in GuidesFromSurface and HairFromGuides?

Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)

yes! :)

Hi Meg,

We have found a possible cause for this issue. Are you using a Surface Comb by any chance? Is so, Delete it OR move it under HairFromGuides and bake the guides. This has solved the problem for me. Let me know if that helps.

We fixed this bug for the latest build which should be online in a few hours (Probably tonight), so you don't have to bake the guides anymore.
