Title:"Remember Clusters" completely change the clustering look in rendertime

Problem

Description:

If i activate the "Remember Clusters" button in the Hair Clustering modifier, when rendering the frame or sequence either locally or in backburner, the clustering look is changed to something else.

Thing is if i uncheck "Remember Clusters" and render locally or in backburner, the clustering is maintained throughout the sequence and is the correct one. I wonder what's the real purpose of "Remember Clusters" at all.

I'm using 3dsMax 2017, latest offical Ornatrix build and Vray 3.5.

Greg

Steps to Reproduce:
  • Groom a character with some high density fur.
  • Preferably, use lots of fur layers, with lots of OX grooming modidiers and edit guides.
  • Add some hair clustering before the Render Settings mod and the VRayOrnatrixMod.
  • Render a frame and notice the hair clamping.
  • Hit the "Lock Hairs" toolbar button for all fur layers; this will activate "Remember Clusters" as well.
  • Render a frame and notice the totally different hair clamping on the character. Rendering a backburner sequence shows all fur locked down, but clamping is still different, albeit locked down as well.
  • Deactivate "Remember Clusters" on all Hair Clustering mods; keep everything else locked as before.
  • Render a frame and notice the hair clamping is back looking as intendent. Rendering a backburner sequence also have all fur locked down and clumping as it should.

Hello,

The "Remember Clusters" function is intended to "cache" the clusters in the scene so they don't change at every frame. I'll have a look into this. For now, please try turning ON Remember Roots Positions in HairFromGuides and GuidesFromSurface.

Pressing the "lock" button on the toolbar, locks everything; Roots Positions in both HairFromGuides and GuidesFromSurface, as well as activating the "remember clusters" on the HairClustering mods. And that's where the problem is, because activating "remember clusters", ruin the clumping groom you have so far, during rendertime only; not visible in viewport.

The weird part is that the reason of "remember clusters" at first place -at least accrding to the popup info- is misleading, cause clumbing after all remain fixed during a network srquence render when "remember clusters" is not pressed.

Hello,

I was able to reproduce this problem and we are looking into it. As a workaround try changing the Num. Clumps parameter back and forth, this should update the Clumping in the viewport and the render.

Thanks...
The workaround worked on local rendering; i still have to check in backburner if it's retained there as well...
Looking forward to hear for any updates regarding this matter...

Cheers,
Greg
