Pref passe and ornatrix

Hello,

I have some characters with ornatrix groom to render and I would like to have a Pref passe (like this http://erwanleroy.com/create-position-reference-pref-pass-in-vray-for-maya/)
 and get more control in compositing.

I tried to do it with an uvw map (xyz to uvw) on top of each geo and get it into a vertex color node in a VrayExtraTex, it was ok except for the groom that appeared totally black.

How can I have my groom in my Pref without convert it into a mesh ?

 


I'm working on 3dsmax 2018 with Vray 3.60 and ornatrix 6.0.20.

Yes, this is possible. We'll need to make a tutorial explaining this. The basic idea is to use GenerateGuideData modifier with Object Space being exported to a texture channel, which is then rendered using the Vertex Colors texture in 3dsmax.

Hey, thanks for reply !

I'm sorry, but I must forget something about export Object Space to a texture channel.. (the texture coordinates mode is indicated as currently unsupported in the doc?)

I tried to load the Object Space Positions in the Texture Coordinates with the same channel as my geo but the fur still render black. (tested with a different channel and same result)

Try changing the channel to per-vertex, and also the mapping channel to 4 in one place and 5 in another.

Finally, I have the result I want ! Smile



I followed all steps but when I changed channel map to more than 2 (I would like 5), Vray send me an error and stop render. If I set channel 1, I just have a uv pass on render (even if I set channel 1 in the vertex color node,

and same thing if I set channel 2). The only time I had a good Pref was when I set channel map to 0. 

 

About the vray issue, if I move the Generate Guide Data modifier under the Hair from Guide it's rendering ! But same as start, the fur is totally black.

 

Is Ornatrix only override channel map 0 ? 

I joined some of the results I had and the Vray error !

Yes I noticed the same thing with channels. I need to do some more testing.
