Baking Mass Fx simulation to alembic problem

Currently i cannot seem to bake any animation to an alembic file. i simulate with MassFx and then try to export as ox alembic with animation range. when i import using ox alembic the mesh is static.

I really don't know how else i am supposed to export the data.

I tried playing with the Ox Animation Cache modifier but i don't understand how it works. I sim using Ox Moov Physics and then cache to an alembic file. do i then turn off moov physics? and load a cache data or what? not very clear docs on this at all. and all the videos i found are using Maya not Max.

can i please get some help. thanks!

Hi,

I don't recommend the user of MassFX, in fact, I think is deprecated in Ornatrix, use Moov Physics instead. To export a cache of the animation add the Animation Cache and click record.

Then import the resulting cache as Ornatrix alembic, add Animation Cache to the resulting BakedHair object and load the same cache again there.

Thank you for the response, that seems to work for the animation, it's playing and it's there, although the hair does not look the same as the original ornatrix setup. the hairs are all thick with no tapering from the root to tip. and the import position is incorrect. I exported the using Ox Animation Cache on the top of the modifier stack. How do i maintain all the grroming i have done? Thanks!

For the strand width make sure that you are exporting the width data with the alembic(in the export settings). For the position make sure that you setup the axis correctly in the export settings.

Node: When cresting a groom, you need to freeze the transforms of the source object before adding the hair. This may be the cause of the position issue.

Great thank you, i have gotten it work now with help from your instructions. but i acheived it slightly differently. I had to export the animation data to an alembic file using the animation cache record funtion. then i had to export the actual ornatrix hairs using the 3Ds Max export option and selecting ox alembic.
i then import the ox alembic, and then add the animation cache modifier to this and load the other alamebic file containing the hair animation.
