Any idea why, even though I'm telling it to render over 50,000 hairs, I seem to only get getting the preview strands to render? Using VRay and Max 2014. Thanks, help! Attached Files: |
Ok so I made a little "head" way (hah). I had root distribution set to " guides as hair, so I guess that just does a one-to-one relation. BUT when I pick any other root distribution setting it puts hair everywhere and ignores my guide selection. So what's the answer (I know I can make distribution maps, but is that the only way and then in that case, why bother working with guides anyway?)
Starting to think I'm looking at a bug. After an overly complicated process, I have a nice looking head of hair in the viewport. But check out the resulting render, it's putting hairs in all kinds of places it shouldn't. Attached Files:
Looks like your SO selection may not be live at the bottom. Also it looks like you have a live SO selection for Edit Guides. I would isolate the SO selections you have and make sure the ones you want open are and the ones that should be closed are. That may be the issue. If not you cna post the scene and I will be happy to take a peed :) Thanks Michael
Thanks for looking! A live SO selection, isolate the SO selections and make sure the open ones are open and the closed ones closed? You lost me there! :-) What's a SO selection? Maybe those instructions will make more sense if I knew for sure what SO stands for. :-) Thanks
Do you basically mean: Keep my poly select modifier active/open Then make sure to check "use sub selection" any time I have that option in an Ornatrix mod?
I seemed to have been able to get the hair under control, but there are still way less rendered strands than showing in the viewport. Here's the scene for you to take a look at. Thanks! http://www.davidpolcino.com/films/hair1test_polcino.zip
Oh Sub Object <-- SO, was thinking you were talking about an Ornatrix-specific issue. Anyway, I still have too few hairs issue. Thanks
Yep I was refering to basic 3ds Max Sub Object mode in a modifer. Just make sure ones you want open are and ones you do not are not. This can cause issues. I will have a look at your scene shortly. Thanks Michael
OK it looks like you just need to increase your render count for hair. In Hair from Guides mod up the render count and you should be all set. Thanks Michael McCarthy
Hm, I did try that, even chose 600,000 and saw no difference! I'll keep playing, but if all you did is raise the render count, that's weird. Did you use my VRay settings? I was thinking it could be something like that maybe? Or even a different system unit scale?
Ok, I guess it was a case of one mistake leading to me making other mistakes in an attempt to solve the problem, classic domino effect! The density distribution map was keeping the count down, at least from what I expected. This seems to be a good 1-to-1 relation of hair. Thanks! Attached Files:
