Hair Clustering

Hi there !

I've got a big problem with Ox_Hair_Clustering.
I've already tryed to point it in another thread :
https://www.ephere.com/plugins/autodesk/max/ornatrix/forums/general/thread_1835.html

We are in production with many furry characters made with Ornatrix and rendered with Vray (2.4)
Our fur artist use Hair clustering a lot, witch is normal.

The bug appears randomly on rendering on our renderfarm.
Check pictures :
Bug

Render ok

I've try a lot a things trying to isolate that bug.
Looks like it may be dependant of the image quality (in draft quality, image is ok, but in production we've got bug), maybe related to the light cache, or DMC.

For the moment, i found just 2 ways to pass through  that bug : disable Ox_Hair_Clustering, witch is not an real option for me or press "Generate" button in the modifier after merging our character (even if it already as been Genrated in the file we merge). Looks like it fixe for net rendering.

2 questions :
What is the point of that Generate function ? can't find it in Doc...
https://www.ephere.com/plugins/autodesk/max/ornatrix/docs/components/hair/global_clustering.html

How can i access to it with maxscript ? recorder give me strange return :
$P_LynxChatira_FUR_scalp.modifiers[#Ox_Hair_Clustering].clustInd.count = 839
$P_LynxChatira_FUR_scalp.modifiers[#Ox_Hair_Clustering].cachedStrandClusterIndices.count = 0

Help would be thankfull.

Hello,

We have seen this thread and looked at it over email but not been able to reproduce it. With your net render this must be using DR too correct? Its hard to see how some buckets would get the inproper shading if not useing DR (but I guess it is posisble). Isolating it downt to generate for hair clustering may help us out in tracking this down. We will look into that as different machines might use different clustering random numbers.

I will follow up over email and get the scene so we can do some tests again.

Thanks

Michael McCarthy

Has i already told once or twice, we don't use Distributed rendering...

BTW, after more investigation, it looks like a Light Cache bug combined with VrayHairMtl.
We now untick "Use cached GI" in the hair shader and it fix the bug.... but increasing rendertime  =/

Here my corresponding thread on Chaos Group forum :

http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthread.php?74109-Rendering-Ornatrix-animation

Can you confirm that Generate button in Ox_Hair_clustering is not accesible via script ?

BTW, the bug is still hidding :)

Thanks !
