Hi,

I'm testing ornatrix at the moment, and I would like to know if it does have similar grooming tool as peregrine Yeti?

Thanks

Direction - similar to comb, this will change the orientation of the strand but not it’s shape.

_images/pgYeti_lift.png

Lift - is used to lift the strands off of the surface of the mesh.

_images/pgYeti_straighten.png

Straighten - is used to straighten out the strands.

_images/pgYeti_smooth.png

Smooth - can be used to smooth out the strands to create a more even groom.

_images/pgYeti_move.png

Move - used to move strand around the input surface

_images/pgYeti_scale.png

Scale - used to uniformly scale the strands, this differs from length as you’re not altering the strands shape.

_images/pgYeti_clumping.png

Clump - as the brush moves the strands are pulled towards the centre axis.

Hello,

We do have many of these in our brush tools under edit guides. Move, Smooth, Scale etc. Please try those out and let us know how they compare or what you feel is not represented.

Thanks

Michael

Hi,

I tested the combing brushes and I miss some of Yeti that I feel are really needed.

Lift, move, direction and Brush Falloff Power.

Brush falloff power is really usefull as it allow you to choose which part of the strand will be affected by your brush. If you want to affect just the root or the tips you can do it with this option.

Lift allow you to raise the the guide curve from the surface.
At the moment you have to use the comb brush trying to do that, but it is not really easy and can completly change your guide shape.

Move allow you to translate your guide curve/strand on the surface. You keep the shape of your guide curve but just move it around the surface to change it's placement without changing its shape.

Direction allow you to change the orientation of your guide curve. Some time I plant my new curves and for any reason because of the interpolation they are planted upside down. In this case I could use the direction to rotate the guide curve to be in the right direction without loosing its shape. It will be the same as having a spline and use rotate with the pivot at its base.

At the moment I only use the comb brush for almost everything and find it quite basic, I had hard time to manipulate the curve at the roots or just at the tips.
Some other things I'd like to have is being able to isolate some curve or hide others. Can you do that?

Thanks

Houdini also has a lift option that is really nice...doesn't effect the groom just lifts the curve away from the surface. VERY VERY VERY VERY useful!!!!!

Also I'm finding the same with the grooming brush...it's diffiuclt to just brush the roots out without effecting the overall grooming.

I find the selection of hairs with the brush pretty nice but it would be nice to also have a neighbouring geo option. Although the back culling does help it would be nice if it selected hairs by neigbour and not a ray cast?

Howdy guys,

Isolating the root or tip for grooming is important. There are a few ways to do this with the Strand subobject. I might give that a try. A lift mod or option is a great suggestion. We will see what can be done :)

Thanks

Michael
