Hair gets screwed up next time you open scene.

Can anyone tell me why each time I open the scene the hair that I have brushed into place is screwed up and the edit guilds can no longer be brush.

The guilds  don't respond to the brush and spring back into the screwed up position.

I have to delete both the edit guilds and hair form guides mods and start again.

Very frustrating.

This happens randomly, it might be fine for a few days then i open the scene and the hair is screwed up again.

Some time like today, after re doing everything on friday only one of the hair cap layers has screwed up.

Tomorrow I will bet that all the layers will be screwed up.

Layers been a hair cap with a different seed, hair amount  and distribution map.

Example of how it should look.

Something must be changing in the guides locations before they reach Edit Guides. This means that either the scalp mesh topology (number/positions of faces) changes or distribution parameters for guides are changing. I would advise to use the "Remember" button in the guides from surface modifier to ensure that guides are cached with the scene and are not re-generated. This should take care of the problem.

Why is there no reference to remember root position in the documentation on guilds from surface?

How is one to acquire this information and to know what and when to use the feature?

Howdy Ramous,

Your right we need to add Remember into the Guides from Surface docs. It is in the Hair from Guides docs were it is most used. This option is really used more for remembering the root positions during rendering. It might work for changing topology of a mesh but its not a common use.

It is most advised that your topology does not change under the hair. This similar to a lot of modifiers in max like Skin, Morph, edit poly etc. If you change the underlying topology you invalidate the modifiers above. I thought I went over this in the OX 101 videos but I will double check and add to the docs too.

Thanks!
