Couple noob questions

Hi

I'm new to Ornatrix, been testing it out in the evenings & loving it so far. I'm currently using the demo version (4.3.0.7230).

Currently using the Ox Guides from Shape workflow

Ox Hair Clustering modifier = 1. I'm struggling to get a desirable result. Any advice on how to do clustering.

2. How do I use the Clusters & Knots sub-object modes of the modifier?. When I go either of those sub-levels, I am not able to select or do anything. Is that normal?

Ox Mesh from Strands = I like the UV options that this modifier introduces (Per Strand UV) but I dont want to convert hair into mesh.

When its set to Per Strand then my Gradient Ramp works correctly. It starts from the root & moves at the same rate across all the hairs. Making it easy for me to control.

I've tried enabling the "Export Guide Mesh Data" but the per strand UVs disappear & i'm not able to place an Edit Guides modifier above it. I've tried Generate W Coordinate of Vray Ox Mod, doesnt help.

VRay Settings = My renders seem to be taking a long time. Are there any suggested render settings or light setups that I could use to speed up rendering?

I've attached a test render + reference = Any tips on how I can improve it?

Oops forgot to attach render

Howdy,

Without Mesh from Strands you will still have UV's per strand. Can you post an example scene that shows your issue please.

Thanks

Michael

Hi Michael

Thanks for quick reply Smile

I attached quick screenshots that shows the difference. In left image if I move the gradient it will fill the top hairs first & only affect bottom hairs when slider is almost all the way over. I'm assuming this is because it gets UVs from Skull Cap.

In right image the gradient moves at the same pace across all the hairs. I've also attached a fur ball scene with the difference.

You should be able to set your material to use VW or WU to get the result your looking for. If you post the scene I will have a look. You can email directly to me at michael.mccarthy@ephere.com
