Hi guys,
Hitting a bit of a wall, I bought this awesome tool a couple days ago and have played around and got this style of hair that I'm liking (see pics attached). I'm struggling with texturing the hair in a way I would like to, layered dye/highlights (see attached reference pic).
Is there anyone out there that could point me in the direction needed to get this problem sorted?
I know you can convert strands to mesh and then they're UV'd but that reduces the quality of the hair (in my opinion) or maybe I'm doing it wrong. Is there a way to control the colour of the hair using a gradient mask or something along those lines??
Many thanks, Jon. | |

Forgot to add that I'm using Vray 3.3 for 3DS Max.

My recommendation for something like this is to use a gradient ramp and rotate the V coordinate by -90. If you enable "Generate W Coordinate" on the VRayOrnatrixModifier the hair should color the same as your gradient from root to tip. Give it a shot.

Thank you for chiming in, Danny. This workflow is what I would recommend too. Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.)
