Hi, Crytek use in the official Cryengine documentation, a "Directionality Normals 3dsMax plugin" here : http://docs.cryengine.com/display/SDKDOC2/Hair+Shader#HairShader-Directionalitymap to do that, Is it a Ephere Ornatrix 3ds Max Plugin ?

Yes, I believe it is the Ox Surface Comb modifier. Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.)

Hi Marsel, sorry, maybe I'm not clear : Is it possible to export a Directionality map from ornatrix (the map at the right from the normal map, on the screen) ?

Look at this break up from Ryse on page 30. It appears they wrote a script to be ale to bake this kind of maps. http://www.crytek.com/download/Ryse_SIGGRAPH_2014_Lars%20Martinsson_Character%20Creation%20and%20Pipeline.pdf

You can also paint this kind of map in substance painter: https://support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Flow+Map+Painting
There seems to have an option in OX Mesh From Strands, to put normal of the geomtry in the direction of the flow instead of perpendicular of the geometry. But it look like it doesn't work. With this option we will only need to rendrer the normal of the hairs to bake the directional map. Is this option working or I am doing something wrong??

This option only applies to billboarded hair IIRC. It'll essentially set normals to the tangents of the hairs. Marsel Khadiyev (Software Developer, EPHERE Inc.) |
