Sometimes the result of the modifier stack gets messed up.

For no apperent reason, the result of the ornatrix modier stack sometimes changes. I do not know what triggers these changes, but the hair gets in disarray. Even undoing changes in 3dsmax does not change the endresult back to it's previous state. Should there be certain triggers for this behaviour I should be aware of?

When this happens its usually a case of changing geometry at the bottom of the stack. This can invalidate the stack and the hair generation. Turbosmooth at the bottom or other mesh editing operations can be the culprit.

Thanks

I did not use a Turbosmooth modifier and I do not think I changed the topology either. I think I changed some settings in an OX modifier and other modifiers in the stack changed (gave different results). For example the clustering modifiers and curling modifier gave more pronounced results. I do not know what happened, but it occured two times up till now. I will try to keep a close eye on it so I can describe the problem more accurately. What stood out to me was that 3dsmax undo had no effect on the end result. I could Undo and the settings of the OX modifiers changed but the result remained different. Again, I have too little information at the moment, so maybe it something stupid I did :-)

OK if you can reproduce an issue with some clear steps let me know.

Thanks

Michael

Hi michael, So what's the best practice to avoid guides being messed up misteriously? Should we ave only an edit poly at the the bottom of the stack before Ornatrix? I have a big problem where I lost all my grooming after saving and reopening a scene. I had a turbosmooth on my edit poly. Or is it safer with edot mesh?

The best practice is to not use Turbosmoth in the Ornatrix stack. If you change the topology of the mesh your guides are based on it will impact your groom. If you need a renderable smooth mesh then add Turbosmooth or Open Subdiv an other mesh that is renderable.

Thanks

Michael

Thansk Michael,

But is it the same problem if we create a guide object to generate the guides instead of using an Ox Guides from Surface modifier?
