Hair from mesh strips

I like the Ox Hair Mesh from Strips modifier, and I was wondering if it's possible to separate the hair strands from the geo and turn them into splines? For example: I would like to model the hairstyle with geometry then use the Ox Hair Mesh from Strips modifier to turn my beautifull modeled hairstyle into splines that I can attach to the skull of the character. I can later use to style further and render independent to the modeled geometry?

Eventually having the same hair style for the same character in 2 forms one as a geo model and the second as real hair that I can render in hero up close and personal shots.

Is that possible with this modifier? If not can you please recommend a different solution to get the same result?

Hi Nottoshabi,

Yes, you can try using the Guides From Hair modifier to convert the hair from strips into Guides, then you can use those guides to groom the hair. If for some reason you want to convert Guides to Splines you can use the Edit Splines modifier on top of the guides.

Thanks for the reply Jeordanis. I'm running V 4.0 of Ornatrix in Max and I dont get the Guides from Hair modifier in the pull down menu after I have created the Ox Hair Mesh from Strips modifier. I only get Guides from Shape and Guides from Surface modifiers.

Can I add modifiers throw max script if they are not displayed in the poull down menu?

Guides from Hair was added in Ornatrix V5 so it won't be in any of the V4 builds. Try this:

  1. Add Mesh from Strands Modifier to the hair
  2. Select "Export Guide Data" option
  3. Add Guides from Guide Mesh modifier
  4. Add Edit Spline on top of the created guides

Thanks that worked. Laughing
