hair distribution

Guides per vertex distribution with Hair from Guides set to random area, high density, short fur is creating grid patterns in the hair.

Using surface comb instead of edit guides seems to alleviate the problem. Any idea why?

Hi Magilla,

Are you using MeshFromHairStrands on top of your stack by any chance?

no, but I have reduced the hair count and added a Strand Multiplier modifier and it seems to give me enough density without reproducing the grid pattern

I was not able reproduce this one, are you rendering using Redshift?

yep, I'm rebuilding the whole creature in v5 now so I'll post again if it shows up, until then we can pretend it never happened ;)

we can pretend no longer, definite grid patterns showing up. Replacing the Hair from Guides modifier solves the problem - same settings, maybe it gets corrupted?

"maybe it gets corrupted?" That is a possibility, I still don't know what is the cause of this. Can I take a look into your scene?

I have similar problem with Hair from Guides. It leaves huge patches of gaps without hairs when set to uniform. Deleting a recreating the modifier with same parameters fix the problem.

I dont have this problem few days (night builds) back.

Jeordanis, If i have time I'll package it up and send it to you, although I did manage to 'fix' this the same as Frodo so I may not be able to track down the version that had the error.

Oh I see... If you have this problem again please send me a scene that I can test, I will be glad to help.
