Texturing Feather Problems

Hi all,

We're using feathers on an eagle but I'm having trouble setting them up as I need them. I've used the groom as a base but the issue comes when I try to texture them. We have the eagle model as a base, the feathers on top and then I also need to apply a light material tattoo on top of that. How can I go about doing that?

I think somehow I need to keep the UV's from the base mesh for the feathers also so I can apply the same texture to the feathers.

Is there a way of using multiple UV channels on feathers? Or perhaps a way of having the feathers take the UV's from the base mesh?

If I need to provide part of scene to help explain it please give me an email address to send it to.

Thanks,

Max

Hi Max,

Yes, you can have more than one UV set/channel and set them as you want, for that you have to use Mesh From Strands. Here is a video of Marsel explainig this process in Maya but is almost the same for Max.

You can have one UV channel to texture the individual feathers and another UV channel with the UVs of the basemesh. let me know if you have any doubt.

Hi Jeordanis,

Thanks very much! That's a huge help :)

Edit: Is there a way of having the feathers take the exact UVs from the whole base mesh? Say I want to apply a single texture exactly the same over all of the feathers?

Thanks,

Max

I'm also having some stability issues, repeated crashing when deleting Surface Comb Sinks.

Hi Max,

Is there a way of having the feathers take the exact UVs from the whole base mesh?

Yes, that is explained in the video.

I'm also having some stability issues, repeated crashing when deleting Surface Comb Sinks.

Please give me more info about this other problems you are having, any detail can help.

Hi Max,

Just following up with your stability issues in Max. Are you still having crashes caused by Ornatrix?
