Grooms(Preset) Help

Hi all,

I am trying to make a groom preset to apply to another mesh with the same mesh topology around, however it seems like the groom I save does not save things like groups? Or am I doing something wrong. Bascially I want the exact same looking hair and want to tweak it from there.

Thanks!

Oh and also Material ID settings

Hi,

You cannot save Strand Groups information into a hair preset because this is Guide level information. When you load a preset in another mesh you are generating new guides so the Strand Groups will be lost.

Same with Material IDs, those are unique to each base mesh.

Thanks for clearing that up,

In the case I am trying to use on it the copy of the same base mesh, can I manually add it in the XML of the preset?

Anoher way to transplant hair from one base mesh to another is by using the Detach Selected Hair button, save the hair presset, select the new base mesh and load the preset. But this won't save the Guide Groups. I will investigate more about this.

Thanks, I will try the detach selected hair! Basically I am using one bace mesh, but trying to use the same hairstyle while modifying length, frizz etc to get a slightly different look but overall its the same base.

Thanks

Shan

Hey Shan,

Then Detach Selected Hair is exactly what you need. By the way, this function is only available in Ox 5. Let me know if that works for you.

Thanks I tried this, I have Ox 5, and it works, but I don't fully understand the detach hair. It seems the stack is still there, but any setting adjusted on it don't make a difference? Seems like a converted to mesh hair, but what is the point of the export. I can't seem to find anything in the docs about detach selected hair button?

thanks!

Shan

Hi Shan,

Indeed, we have to update the docs and make a tutorial about this, we are working on it. After you have loaded the preset into the new base mesh you have to turn OFF Detach Selected Hair From Surface. This will "Ground" the hair to the new mesh and you will be able to change the settings.
