Adriano, I just tried and it seems to be working fine. I have used an animated noise and it change the thickness of the hair in viewport and rendering. I would like to have more informacion, what version of Ox are you using? are you using a procedural map or a bitmap?
This is a render with VRAY 3.5 in Max, but it work the same in viewport, I can drag the time line or play the animation and you can see the thickness or the length changing at every frame.
Yes, they multiply. In this gif you can see the noise map changing the lenght and the thickness of the hair at the same time, I have set two keyframes for the Phase parameter of the noise map. I'm including the scene in case you want to try it.
THanks a lot, man. So i figured, my problem is as soona si key the randomness, the length animation disappears :$ THat's why i wasn't seeing anything. Can you confirm that please?
I'm not being specific here. The length animation still shows, but not the animated length map. As soon as I key teh rnadomness it stops taking the animated map into consideration for the animation.
just try to set some keys on the min / max length for the randomness, and see if your animated length map still works. Cause for me it does not. And not only that, but afterward if i take out the keyframes, the length map won't even work anyway, i have to add a new strand length modifier again to make it work.
I moved on though, i stopped keyframing the min / max length cause it was just not working. When i avoid that, no problem the animated length map works fine. All good.
Hi, just as experiment I tried applying a noise map to Length and it worked fine for me. I've been struggling with another issue: Using VRayDistanceTex to drive an attribute. So far the only thing I can affect are distribution maps. If there is any other solution to automate procedural hair clean up, that would a lot of help too. Using v4.5.0.7782, going to try testing it on v5.
Looks like I forgot to reply to this thread, I apologize. I just tried again and I'm able to keyframe the StrandLenght and RenderSettings parameters without any problem, with and without maps. Maybe this bugs has been solved.
Hello Yury,
I'll take a look into the VRayDistanceTex, but I think you can use the GenerateGuideData modifier to do the same. Here is a video:
I got the hair to shrink and do cool stuff using the Generate Guide Date mod, but seems to only work based on distance to a transform of an object. Is there a way to get it working with geometry? Can't find any documentation on this. Also I see that there's an option for "Inside of an object" but not sure how to use it. Thanks!
"Is there a way to get it working with geometry?" basically instead of a transform to drive a channel, I would like to use an actual geometry to specify proximity to guides. So lets say I have some clothing that's moving up and down an arm. I would like to drive a Surf Comb and Length parameters so that when cloth is getting close the hair folds and shrinks under it. Thanks!
Currently it's only with a transform (calculating distance to single position is fast and easy). I don't think adding an option to do it with the mesh would be a problem though. I'll look into that.
