yea that was kinda where we started out but i'm not the best barber so it was uneven and not so precise. didn't know if there was another way to boolean or shape the splines with more exact results or something.
we went with creating splines in maya due to the fact they were easier to randomize position and shape then brought them over to max (where i have ornatrix).... but without adding 1000's of spline you could always see the interpolation no matter which method we tried and with fewer splines it would lose the exact shape. there was always stairstepping or rings and if i frizzing and randomizing to compensate for that it would change the shape of the brush.
was looking for a more effeicent trick i guess. didn't know if there was a tool i was missing from all the videos. thanks for all of those BTW.
i've got hairballs and hair on body down pat. just the structural shapes i'm having problems with.
