Unreal UE plugin teething issues

<span style="font-size: large;">Hello, I recently purchased a license for the Ornatrix plugin and have been using it in Unreal Engine for hair grooming. My primary goal is to add a few more hairs to an existing MetaHuman groom. However, while using Ornatrix, I've encountered issues, especially with a MetaHuman character's hair. For instance, when I create additional hairs and then toggle off the hair option, the newly added hairs are not visible. Could you please advise on this and which version of Ornatrix is most compatible with the current MetaHuman hair grooming process?

Hey, @chanveda

Nice to meet you. Charly here =)

Thank you for your question.

What version of Unreal do you use? What Ornatrix version did you install?

I understand you want to edit an already finished hairstyle on Metahuman, add more details to it, right? Or do you want to add another hair separately?

I can send you instructions here with a video steps demonstration this Monday.

Hey Charly.

Nice to meet you too. Warm greetings is all you need to feel part of the community already :). Thanks for that.

I am using UE 5.2.1 ornatrix 1.0.7.33330

Not exactly more details to finished hairstyle, But I am trying modify the hairstyle a bit by adding few more hairs to it in the bald region. I am able to add haris, in ornatrix, but when I toggle off the edit mode to switch to native metahuman hair, the modifcatons are lost. Instead if I remove some of the hair, trim and togle the edit mode the changes are correctly propogated to native metahuman hairs. I have attached a small video demonsrating the adding issue.

Following the steps in ornatrix tutorial on youtube prefectly I am still facing this issue.  All other modifications sustain except adding of new hair. guess its an issue with the version combo, UE 5.2.1 ornatrix 1.0.7.33330. ? if there are any known issues on this please let me know.  I need to complete this small change fairly quickly, purchased the licience , instead of trial for this reason.

Here are the steps to replicate the issue

1. Import the metahuman to UE, with its groom

2. Select the Face -> Hair

3. Click on toggle button "Toggle between to native groom and editable Ornatrix Hair

4. Slect create brush

5. Create hair in an empty space on head mesh

Hair appears properly in editable mode

6. Toggle the button in step 3 to Native groom ,

7. Newly created hair dissapears only native metahuman hair remain

I have tried previous version of ornatrix as well. Is this a known issue ? or am I missing something here ?

Ok. I'm here. Will check everything now. Give me some time.

Thanks @charlyxxx that will be helpful

Hey, @Chanveda

Hm, everything is ok on my side. Just change hair width in native hair settings. or before creating the new hair, add ChangeWidth and play with it settings. I think your hair is just very thin after converting.

So, I recorded a video and prepared an Unreal project for you. Please test again in this project. If everything will be ok. Please share your project and I will test again. Btw, before that please uninstall all Ornatrix versions in Control Panel and install again the latest stable version.

Timing:

0:00 - Selecting hair and converting to Ornatrix

0:11 - Adding edit guides for editing. Hiding unnecessary objects

0:29 - Selecting Create Brush and drawing hair into an empty space.

0:59 - Make more hair in settings. Draw it again.

1:48 - Convert hair to standard Native Hair.

2:24 - Notice that there is the same amount of hair, just thinner.

2:49 - Go into the settings and adjust the thickness. See the same amount of hair =)

Looking forward to your answer

Unable to test this fully due to multiple crashes I am faced with. Replied to other thread with crash logs. Will be able to test this fully once I sucessfuly come out of the crashes. Thanks for your help so far on this.

Ahaha, thank you. Of course, you can ask other questions if you have encountered a problem. It is better to create a new thread for each problem. This way, if other users encounter the same problem, they will be able to quickly find the answer by searching the forum.

As far as I understand it - the main problem described at the beginning of the topic - solved? And we can close this topic?

Ok. I will wait. Just let me know, when you will test this. So I'll leave the issue open until you test what I've written and say it's okay. Don't worry, we will definitely solve this problem together. We just need some time =)

Good luck =)

Hey @Charlyxxx, thanks for the firendly reminder, Re: crash issue, we had two parallel versions of UE installed for testing , 5.2.1 and 5.3.1 after uninstalling 5.3.1 the crash issue has dramatically reduced. Good news is that, we can now resume the grooming workflow. Will test and let you know today if this issue can be closed.

Thanks for all you help on this, the missing hair issue is now resolved. We can safely close this thread. Need some help on the hair thickness. Will open a new thread on this.

Okay. I will check back here periodically and review your responses. I'm glad that the crash problem has been fixed. By the way, Unreal can often crash because of this. I usually fix it with the command t.maxfps 60 in the console.

Awesome! Thank you for letting me know. Horray! I'm glad.

So we won't post here anymore and I won't look here anymore. Uh-huh. I'll go find your next thread.

Thank you and have a great day
Best regards,
Andrew.
