Simple default furball blows up when simulating

I am trying Ephere for Unreal in Unreal 5.4 Setting up a simple furball with default values as described in the Ephere tutorial on a standasphere produces wildly unexpected results. Either the simulation shows no effects or the furball wildly blows up as in attched image. What am I missing here?
