Hi I wish to adopt a workflow where by I assign the selection set to limit where hair grows, but initially no guides are added. It seems the main method to add guides to use the guides from mesh which covers the whole mesh or assigned selection set, This workflow is much like C4D native method but it would be nice to have the selection set made and applied as C4D native hair system does. Moving on from this I wish to add a selection of guides manually, assign them to a group then add another selection of guides, let's say left side, back, fringe bangs groups. In order to do this, I must select all the guides and delete them. I run into some issues as follows. 1: when I use the plant guide tool it does not give me the option to either apply according to the normal or the geometry or to interpolate other guides close by. There are times when I would have liked to style each group of hair then add more in which it does not try to follow the guides already placed as this makes it easier to select the new lot of guides for a new group. 2: The guides added by means of the (Plant Guide Tool) does not respond to any parameter from the (Guides from mesh) operator such as length, something the native hair system does allow. The Distribution method changes don't translate whats been added such as the style, or the selection of planted hair guides but rather applies guides to the whole mesh or selection set. 3: After using the (Plant Guide Tool) I select the guides and assign them to a group, let's say! group 1. After doing this I use the (Plant Guide Tool) again for another group of hair but its getting assigned to the last group made automatically even if I select a new group index number? Because its also using an interpolation it's mixing a close by a group with another in which I cant separate to add it to its own individual group. It also comes to me how inconvenient it is to see groups as numbers rather than meaningful names such as Fringe, Sides, Back, but the Select by group option does help to visually select the correct group. With the above issues, I tried another way, update the selection set as I go. I select the side of the scalp and add a selection set. I generate guides and assigned to a group 1. I then make another selection set which updates the guides only there is a problem that manifests itself, guides are added within the last selection set area and the new so I have random guides coming out from the area iv already styled. As I like to use a map to group guides from this again would not be the best workflow even if it did work. I need a workflow to let me plant guides, assign them to a group with a meaningful name, style that group and add another layer of guides. It may be the case that Ornatrix adopts a totally different workflow, but as of yet iv not found it. With the native Hair system, If I were to make a sweep back style like for a ponytail I would not add guides over the whole cap area but only from the fringe edges, it uses much less hair and avoids intersections from too many layers under it.
Thanks,
Dan
