How to get from a "ready made groom" ==> "rendering an animated mesh"?

C4D Version R21.207

Ornatrix PlugIn Version 1.0.5.23533

Redshift Version 2.6.51

So, I have been going through all tutorials and step by step guides, consulting the manual and watching the videos.

But, I'm stuck with the two ways of caching an animated c4d scene. I have a rigged character, using joins and skin deformer for my test animation.

I cant find detailed information, on how to proceed now, what is the next step - do I need / not need or maybe can choose to have something like gravity added? For fur, I maybe don't need gravity? Right, it is not long human hair?

So, I can save out an alembic file from the file menue. I also can use the animation modifier to save out an alembic. What is the right way to do it?

I experienced various crashes in c4d, when baking / writing the .abc file. Using the animationg cache. For the filenam using .###. did not create a sequence of files, but instead it did also create a single file.

Have a look at the resulting animation (a local viewport capture) and please give a hint, what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks,

Karsten

Hi Magic,

Adding gravity to the hear is more of an art desicion, that is up to you, you decide if you need it or not based on your project's requirements. I can help you with workflow questions though.

So, I can save out an alembic file from the file menue. I also can use the animation modifier to save out an alembic. What is the right way to do it?

If you are exporting in Ornatrix Alembic format both options are the same, but the Animation cache modifier gives you some extra settings.

I experienced various crashes in c4d, when baking / writing the .abc file. Using the animationg cache. For the filenam using .###. did not create a sequence of files, but instead it did also create a single file.

Please provide the scene so I can try to reproduce the crash. For the flickering issue try collapsing the hair stack starting from the symmetry modifier.

Hi Jeordanis,

thanks for the hints.

Exactly, you got me right, I wanted to know if using gravity is just an artistic question, or if it was mandatory for the system to work correctly.

I'm still experiencing a crash, when trying to use this filename format baked_animation.###.abc, but that is not a show stopper, because I can just use baked_animation.abc to create a cached file.

Mine has approximately between 900MB and 1GB. - I've been solely using the Animation cache modifier to export the alembic file.

As you suggested, I've collapsed the stack from the symmetry modiefier, this changed the result a lot.

But still, I'm having issues (flickering is gone), but the hair does not stick to the surface. I'm really sorry to ask those noob questions, but because I'm still lost somehow, I'm just guessing around, maybe the "Ground modifier" can help?
