I have a rigged character with a symmetry operator on it. Whenever the head turns, the hair is symmetrically flipped instead of all of it moving with the head. My solution to this was to bake down to the symmetry operator (let me know if there is something obvious I'm missing here with symmetry and rigged characters). However, for whatever reason, this lengthens the hair and seems to slightly change some of my styling. The hair in this scene has been a little glitchy overall. It will sometimes pop into this longer hair version and the only way I can fix it is to bake the hair and hit undo. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Any help would be appreciated! | Does it have something to do with the fact that I was only previewing 10% of my hairs in the viewport (update: I increased the hairs to 100%, cut them, then tried baking it. Same issue still occured)? I figured that wouldn't matter when it came to cutting and styling the hair. Is there something wrong with my order of operators that might be causing the weirdness? Although, my eyebrows have a similar issue where I bake them, and then most of the strands just disappear. I'm quite confused about what's happening here. |
| Hello, Baking the Symmetry modifier is the correct workflow. However baking should not change the hair shape. I will take a look into your scene and get back to you soon. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.) |
| In what version of Ornatrix are you creating this groom? Can you send me a screenshot to see how it should look in the viewport? Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.) |
| I'm working in C4D Version 1.1.0.26341. Here's two screenshots of the groom. One with the correct short hair and one with the longer hair after I hit the bake button. Attached Files: |
| Notice that the Gravity modifier should be added after Symmetry. This is because when the character's head moves gravity will change the shape of the input strands, and symmetry will copy the shape of the input strands from one side to the other. | Hmm that doesn't seem to be the issue. When I hit bake after moving gravity after symmetry, the hair still doubles it length and removes some styling. Do we know if this has anything to do with the fact that i only view 10% of the hairs when making edits? And baking somehow messes everything up? Just not sure why this issue might be popping up. The same issue pops up when I try baking the lashes and brows which have different setups. The lengths get longer and it removes a lot of styling. The difference here is that my viewport fraction is at 100%. Attached Files: |
| The issue is not related to the hair count in the viewport. The team is looking into this with high priority, I will keep you posted. I can reproduce the issue on V2 but the hair doesn't change that much, just a few strands change it's rotation. To be honest, I think in the best case you would have to upgrade to V2, because V1 is not under development anymore. I will let you know as soon as I have any updates. | Thanks! That's unfortunate about the upgrading to V2. I bought this program a year ago, but haven't gotten the chance to incorporate it into a project till now and weird bugs keep popping up for some reason. And I'm not sure I could afford to upgrade to V2 even with that upgrade discount I saw in the V2 release post. |
