How to make roots different values on dynamic hair

I'm learning hwo to use channels to affect different values in the Moov physics. It looks like the roots are the only thing that can't be affected by channel values. I want the roots at the crown to be stiffer than any roots underneath. This way, the roots of hair lower than the crown will not show through the hairstyle. That's what happens when all roots have the same stiffness. Is there a way to work around this problem?

Hi,

I just tested this and it seems to work as expected.

If I understand correctly, you want to use strand channels to control Moov attributes. I'm including an example. In the attached scene I created a per-vertex strand channel in Edit Guides called MyChannel. Then I linked this channel to the Attract to Initial Shape attribute to control the stiffness of the strands near the roots.

Please try this and let me know if there is any attribute that doesn't work with channels as expected.

Thanks, I understand what you're trying to do...but how would that apply to a a flat hairstyle that doesn't have that much volume? You're doing a short hairstyle with a lot of bounce and volume. I'm tryin gto do something like the attached pic. When the guides lay flat on the head, the roots that are on the lower hairs will stick out.

I was talking about controlling the actual root stiffness. It doesn't have a channel modifier slot like all of the other values do.

Actually, it may work if I piant away some of the vertex value and make it closer to the crown. Will try that. Thanks again. I appreciate that you're here to answer new users questions and that you're so knowledgable about the plugin.

It worked. Thanks.

I attached some pics to show what I was trying to achieve.

I'm glad to hear it worked. This is actually a good idea. Thank you for pointing it out.

You are right, the Root Stiffness parameter doesn't have channel plug. We will look into it.

When I get into a software, I'll find ways to either break it or find things missing. I'm getting better with each hairstyle I make, butI 'm also finding that there's some  things Ornatrix needs to make styling easier.

Like some scalp collision when brushing, so you don't have to rescue the roots that have disappeared beneath the scalp.

There should be a "puff roots" tool like every har system has.

There needs to be some guide interpolation splitting, to solve the problem I posted in the other thread about the hair going throigh the shoulders when guides simulate around them. That's basic for making a long hair system work, otherwise all of the individual hair need to be simulated.

Just some thoughts...but some of it may be my newness to the plugin. But I look at all the things I mentioned as easy things which should be obvious/automatic and not need deep knowledge to achieve.

Use Push Away from Surface. It's in Edit Guides.

There needs to be some guide intrepolatrion splitting, to solve the problem I posted in the other thread about the hair going throigh the shoulders when guides simulate around them. That's basic for making a long hair system work, otherwise all of the individual hair need to be simulated.

I will get back to you on that. But interpolation splitting is done with parting. In your case I think there is just not enought guides. I have to double check.

Thanks for pointing out the push away from surface feature. I looked past it so many times but never saw it.  That button alone has made styling about 50% easier.

I did another read through of the docs.
