Question about lag in viewport

When i have "force render mode evaluation" clicked on, every move I make in the viewport I have to wait about a minute for Cinema 4d tro unfreeze. I thought having "display strand count fraction" would help with that but it doesn't. Is that normal behavior? I'm testin gto use Ornatrix for multiple character in the same scene and I won't be able to deal with long lag times while working.

The drop in performance will depend on the complexity of the hair: Hair count, amount of modifiers, point/vertex count. One minute is way too long and I don't consider it normal, but I don't know what you have in your scene. If you can share it you can send it to my email and I will take a look: jeordanis .f (at) ephere.com.

Will baking the stack help with performance?

Thanks for all of your help so far. I'm learnin ga lot oand have moved away from the "mesh strips" method and learning how to make a strand groom with MOOV physics. That's working better than the strips.

Will baking the stack help with performance?

It could, but I don't recommend baking the stack just for performance. To improve performance I recommend reducing the amount of details displayed in the viewport. For example, you could reduce the amount of strand points shown in the viewport using the Detail modifier, keeping a high density for rendering and low density for the viewport. The same applies for Hair from Guides.

I recommend baking the stack to reduce complexity or remove unnecessary computations. Baking some specific modifiers(not the whole stack) will reduce compute time, however is up to you which modifiers you want to bake and you will make the decision in a case by case basis. I may give you some suggestions if you attach a screenshot of the hair stack.
