I'm following this turorial on how to make LOD hair

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkwYvEAM1mQ

It's a little different from Cinema 4d, but I can follow it and do understand what's happning. The problem is, there's no way I can see to generate the channel needed in the Hair from Guides operator. If I use "New strand channel"  in the Generat Strand Data operator and type in the name, it doesn't show up as a distribution channel in Hair from Guides. If I make a channel by the normal methods in Edit Guides, I can select it as a distribution channel, but it doesn't work when moving the camera further away.

Can you post the exasct steps to make this work in Cinema 4d?

The steps are the same as in Max. I tested as shown in the video, adding Generate Strand Data before Hair from Guides and it works as expected. I included my test scene.

Can you make it work with a camera move to change the amount of hair? I wasn't able to do that with your scene.

I set my min and max camera distances in the source value range and it didn't work. I also had to parent a null to the camera because the object field in generate strand data doesn't accept a camera as an object.

I modified your scene to have a camera move with target distances. It doesn't work the way the youtube video works.

My bad. You are right. I only tried with a polygon object. We will address both issues. I will keep you posted.

It actually works in your scene. It just doesn't update automatically when you move it. We will do more research on this but it will take some time.

Thanks, Jeordanis

Camera objects will not be supported for now. You can continue using a null object as you have been doing so far.

The channel update issue has been solved for the next nightly build.
