Grounding Hair from Meshstrips

Using an exist hair card model, I got all the meshstrips all going in the correct direction (all arrows out). Hairs render fine. When I ground the hair it seems to not use the the hair direction information. Example, the ends of the front bangs, get sucked in and become the roots. What is the purpose of the arrows? Am I going to have to make each mesh's root end touch the scalp?

Hi,

The arrow represents the root and the tip of the hair strands. You have to rotate the arrow using the Rotation options in Hairs from Mesh Strips to tell Ornatrix what are the roots of the strands.

The reason why Ground Strands flips the strands is likely because the roots are set wrong. The arrow should be pointing to the tips of the strands.

Am I going to have to make each mesh's root end touch the scalp?

Ground Strands will move the roots to the nearest points on the surface, so there is not need for that. This can be controlled with the ramp curve in Ground Strands.

Hi Jeordanis,

Thanks for the quick reply. I must have not been clear in my posting, I have set all the direction arrow as you stated. See below

Once I use the Ground operator, all the hairs in the front bangs become the roots.

See the option Ground Closest End in Ground Strand modifier. The bangs tips are very close to the face, so it is grounding them. More info here
