In Zbrush, I made this character:

The colory things are polygroups done with this brush:

The cool thing is, that it has UVs in Strain direction.
A friend of mine did following:

He transformed the Hair Tubes into a Volume and converted the UVs into a Vector volume.
Then he rooted the hair roots into the skull and used the vectors to grow them in comb direction.
After that he added some minor modifiers.

What came out is this:

Right now, if I set up everything correct at the beginning, using the hair tubes with UVs etc. It seem to run fine with any haircut possible.'

That sounds like something awesome to have in Ornatrix. Even if the combing in UV direction does not work, you could still use the something like the surface comb to set up the vector-volume.
