Since DirectX fixes default line width to 1, it whould be helpful being able to change the color of the lines at least. Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. Do you mind to expand on this idea? What would be the purpose of this? IMO it will be confusing because Edit Guides can be used to add Strand Groups, which already gives colors to the strands.

Thanks for asking.

The dark blue thin guides are very hard to see in front of the standard background and inbeteen a bunch of hair strands. My workaround is placing a Mesh from Strands modifier right after the Edit Guides - which does not work when I want to see generated hair lines as well, or placing a C4D Background object with a color matarial of choice in the scene. This is not very convenient from ny point of view. I am pretty sure, the old option to change the Guide Width in the Edit Guides moditier was ment to make these suckers more visible when needed.

The C4D Preferences are giving the option to change pretty much every color aspect of the UI. I whould love to find a color for OX_HairGuides here as well ... or in the Ornatrix Display Tag i.e.

On the other hand, a solution could be finding an other way for changing the Guide Width in the viewport.

What if you assign a strand group to all the guides? That will give them a random color. Is that enough?

Nice suggestion, and most of the time I am using Strand Groups, but for other reasons. And most of the time they don't give me contrasty colors. It's more about the phase when painting and placing guides manually one by one ... when no Groups are assigned. In the end, my idea is just about finding a way to make the loss of the Guide Width feature less painful.

Btw. Maxon managed to change Spline Width through their Preferences. You can change the native C4D splines to the thickness you like, but this setting has no influence on Ornatrix guides ...

Hi Jeordanis,

still considering, or got the point? Just wanted to know, what's going on ... !? Apologizes for this rude sound, but I am working on hair during the last couple of weeks, and not seeing the guides drives me crazy ... and there has been no update to this feed during the last few weeks ...

I think what we need is shaded guides in the viewport. I will discuss this with the team and revisit the guide width feature. Thanks for the info.
Don't worry, your post didn't sound rude to me.

What exact version of C4D are you using?

R26.107 Windows10

The Spline Width setting was present in R25.117(just checked), and as I can remember in earlier versions as well. It ranges from 1 to 10 (pixels).

I can imagine an additional modifier as well, that is a combination of Mesh from Strands and Change Width, but without affecting the rest of the stack ... called View Enhancer i.e. ... this could quickly be switched on and off ...

... just an idea ...

The devs looked into this again and the conclusion is the same. Cinema 4D API explicitly states that only width of 1.0 is supported.

What I do is add Mesh from Strands to see the strands as tubes and set it to viewport only so it doesn't affect the render.
