Hi, I'm currently trying out Ornatrix demo and when I render the hair out, I'm getting terrible artifacts.

Is this another limitation of the demo or a bug?

It happens with finalRender and Scanline. Both with fR materials and standard mats.

Hi Lukas,

Can you please quickly explain the setup you're using? Are you rendering using "Ox Fast Raytracer" atmospheric? When using a standard material are you also using the standard shader? Are there lights in the scene?

If you could attach the scene also/instead it'd be simpler.

Well, I can't save the Ornatrix stuff in demo. :) As for the setup, I'm using the Ox Hair Raytrace Accurate, all at default. As for the materials, it's standard on both the hair and the mesh and a standard Blinn shader on both. The hair is just generated from a Geosphere with the Ox Guides from Surface and Ox Render Settings modifiers. There is one spot light with Ox Raytraced Shadows turned on. The spotlight uses Inverse Square falloff. All rendered in the latest version of finalRender stage-1 R3.5 SP5 in Max 2011 x64 on Windows 7  Pro x64.

Have you tried using the fast raytracer? Is there a particular reason why you need to use the accurate raytracer? Also, have you tried rendering as geometry (throw an Ox Mesh from Strands modifier on top)?

AHA! It seems to be the Ox Raytraced Shadows in the light that's tripping. When I choose Deep Shadows, for example, the hair renders just fine. With both the Accurate and Fast renderers.

It could be a defect, I'll have a look at raytraced shadows but will log it as a bug for now.

Yep, could be something between fR and Ornatrix raytracing engines. Anyways, hope you can nail it down without too much trouble. :)

Ha! Another one :D the Ox Hair Expensive shader crashes Max.

I'm using finalRender for rendering the materials as well.

Lukas, are you still experiencing this? Can I close this issue or does it still happen with fR? I tested with scanline and could not reproduce anything.

sorry, but it has been so long I no longer use finalRender. I haven't bumped into this issue afterwards, so, no, I can't reproduce it either anymore.
