hi there.

I have to create pepper and salt hairs for a character. my native language is not english, so i attached a pic that show you what type of hair i want(half black and half white but on random order). i want gray and sandy blond color as pepper and salt hairs. how can i make hairs in 2 different color by random roots? then i want to paint some area on hair too.

Ways to rock the salt and pepper look

sorry for posting this cuz i find my answer from here.

i cant delete my post. you can delete it. thanks

Glad you find the answer.

Another way to do it is using Generate Strand Data to create a channel with random values for strand roots. Is like adding a random noise but it can be set to affect the strands per roots or per vertex. Then you can use this channel as a texture mask in your shading network. This will only supported by Redshift and Arnold.

Hi Jeordanis

Thanks for your replying and guidance and I'm glad that i'm using Ornatrix becuz of your nice support.

i have another question about Merging or texturing.

i have 4 different hair objects on my character which i've created by Ornatrix in 3ds max. i have to assign gradient material to all of them by one gradient to look a gradient white to blond (Vray). i attached 2 pic to show you what i want.

pic1: 4 different hairs created by ornatrix

pic2: what i want to be (texture)

also i need to use vrayhairnextmtl.

thanks again.

Hi,

The hair will inherit the UV coordinates of the distribution mesh(the mesh used to generate the hair), so you don't need to take any extra steps to add a gradient like you describe. Create your gradient material on the distribution mesh and it will work the same in the hair.

Thank you so much Jeordanis. I don't know why this simple idea didn't come to my mind EmbarassedLaughing. It worked nice.

Glad to hear it.
