UE5 guide sim export

Hi,

We have exported an ornatrix groom from 3DsMax to Unreal engine and have now exported just the simulated guide hairs as an ornatrix alembic, but when we load the guide hairs onto the groom in Unreal everything collapses to the origin. Does anyone have any experience with exporting guide caches to Unreal? We can export the full groom with anim and load into Unreal, but the alembics are going to be to big with the sims, so we really need to just export the guide curves and load these onto the full groom in Unreal. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Graham

Hi Graham,

This was the one issue addressed on Discord, right? Please let me know if that was not the case.

When exporting Ornatrix hair as alembic, the first thing to check is that the Unreal Engine option is enabled in the export settings when you export the hair.

Next is to make sure that you set the correct UP axis int he same settings.

Hi, I didn't realise there was a discord channel, I am just checking it out now. We did get guide caches loading in UE5 but the deformations aren't working well enought with our grooms compared to using the full groom caches, so I think we are going to have to stick with using full caches. Cheers
