Crashing and PhysX

Hi Guys,

My max scene crashed as I was updating a distribution mask for new hairstyle. This map is used within the Guide generation tab on the 'Guides from Surface Modifier'. Any scene that used this texture in this way failed to open, then presented a PhysX error report, then a maxscript exception error and then max closes.

The only way to recover the files was to revert the distribution map, which I had luckily backedUp...Phew!

Once we use a distubtion map at this base level are we allowed to change it?

If we do, should it crash and lock out files in this way?

Any ideas what coud be going on?

Hi Andy,

It shouldn't crash in any circumstance so if you can reproduce this consistently please send me the steps and/or the scene (marsel.khadiyev (at) ephere.com). You can change the distribution map in Guides from Surface, however, it is not recommended once you have set up your modifier stack, especially if you used free-hand modifiers like Edit Guides as the input guides will change and create unpredictable results up the modifier stack.

I too have seen a PhysX related crash.    It comes up when using dynamics. A maxscript window pops up and says something about a failure with the start of simulation.  I still can't figure out how to reproduce it, but I've gotten it several times.  I will send the exact language if it happens again... and try to reproduce too.
