Problem

Description:

I set up curves and style. It looks good when I am finished. I see a nice style when I am ready. I press save.. I press render... and I see this wirey mess as if the hair was in the wind and static. If I press the retarget changes button it looks like I want it to.. but if I press render it goes wild again. I have no Moov physics applied I am just trying to get the style right.

Steps to Reproduce:

inported curves. Converted curves to guides. Connected guides to scalp. made hair from guides. Set the width. Added detail to smooth curves at render time. Started styling with edit curves using brushes and scissors. Ended up with a nice look. Pressed render. OpenGL looks good. Watch render. Render shows very messy hair. render closes. I see same messy openGL. I have no moov physics or any physics. Just want to style static hair first.

Is the character animated? If so, this might happen if the guides are not grounded to the scalp and the character is animated. Go into Ground Strands node and be sure to press Roots Detached.

Also, please provide Ox version, Maya version and Os.

I thought for sure that if I wanted the hair to follow the rig and not just stay in one spot floating that I had to attach the curves to the scalp geo. Further without attaching the curves to the scalp which makes them guides... I can't then create hair from guides. So you are saying that once I skin a scalp to the rig, and create hairs that are stuck to the scalp so that they move with the animated rig that I am supposed to detach them? Seems counter intuitive.

Quite the opposite. The "Roots Detached" button will change its state to "Roots Attached" when you press it. In Ground Strands after linking the guides to the scalp, you have to attach the roots to the scalp. When linking the guides to the scalp you are giving Ornatrix the geometry dependence information to generate and interpolate hair. When you are attaching the guide roots to the scalp you are giving Ox a geometry so the hair can follow it. Be sure to do both.

Edit1 I suspect that the exploding is caused by unattached roots but to be sure I need to look into the scene. If you can provide the scene for testing you can send it to jeordanis.f (at) ephere .com.

The hair does follow the rig. The roots are attached. I did press the button initially and it worked the first time. Its the fact that even with static hair without using any moov or dynamics that the hair will look fine as I scrub the timeline but as soon as I press render it will render with hair fly aways and like the image you see above.. only after I press render though, the it stays like that until I press the retarget button which seems to fix the hair back to normal but this will change to a mess again if I press render. I will send the scene file to you.
