Problem

Description:

Hi,

We installed Ornatrix to a linux host and tried to render a character. The first time we hit render, its fine, but the second render, be it the next frame, or just pushing render again does not have any fur.

The .run file is called "Ornatrix_Maya_2019_3_3.2.8" Does that first '3' represent Maya 2019v3 and would it make a difference running 2019v2?

We also have tested this on a Windows host and not had the error.

Other then that i'm at a loss on where to even begin troubleshooting this, any idea for logs, things to try etc?

Maya 2019.2

Ornatrix 3.2.8

Redshift  2.6.45

CentOS 7

Steps to Reproduce:

Open maya scene with groomed character

Render with redshift IPR

Render again with redshift IPR

Hi,

Are you rendering on a renderfarm?

Are you using texture maps inside one of the hair operators?

Please check for errors or warnings after the first and then after the second render.

Then add a Mesh from Strands at the top of the operator stack and launch another render. Let me know how this goes.

The file name is not related to the Maya version. The Maya version for which the installer was build can be seen in the download page. Each Maya version requires a different installer.

Hi Jeordanis,

  • No renderfarm currently, but that is coming.
  • There is a texture map for the distribution multiplier on HairFromGuides
  • There are several Frizz, Clump, and Curl operators that have texture maps on their Amount Multiplier/Map parameters
  • We get this before the first render:

                WARNING | Ephere.Ornatrix.ArnoldProdedural6.2.so was compiled against non-compatible Arnold6.2.0.0
                WARNING | Ephere.Ornatrix.ArnoldProdedural6.2.so was compiled against non-compatible Arnold6.2.0.0

  • This works. I assume it . . well, makes a mesh from the strands, which is a bit more renderer agnostic? Is there any performance concerns here?

Thanks

Thank you. We will try to reproduce this on Linux and get back to you as soon as possible.

The Arnold error is benign and is not related to your issue.

I asked you to use Mesh from Strands to see is the hair would render or not. If not, then the issue was related to the hair maps probably.
