Hi,

Thank you for your report. This crash seems to only affect Maya 2019 and below. We are investigating this. It will be fixed for the next build.

any idea on the time frame as we are in production and I have limited time on this project.

Andy

I can't tell about the time frame but we set the priority to High. I will keep you posted.

FYI simular issues in Maya 2020.2

We cannot reproduce this with a simple base mesh (sphere). It might be related to the geometry of your bird mesh.

Please try the following:

* Repeat the steps from your video with a polygon sphere instead. See if it will crash.

* Send us the .dmp file generated by Maya when crashed. Also look for a file called OrnatrixMaya2018.log in your %TEMP% directory and send that too.

* If you find that you don't get a crash with a sphere, it would help us if you send us the scene with the bird mesh. You may zip and send it to ivan.kolev at ephere.com.

ok sending you a model.

Andy

You may also try switching the display mode.

In the attributes of the HairShape, the top Viewport Hair Display panel, try the different values of Hair Display Mode.

In one of my tests the crash stopped happening when I deleted my Maya settings folder. Maybe you can try that as a workaround while you wait for a definitive fix.
