Did you enable Camera-facing Normals in the HairShape settings? Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)
Hi Yes, I toggled camera facing hair and camera facing normals under all three modes to test, none of the options had any affect. Btw red color hair in viewport is facing away and black forward? Mariusz
Are you using the OpenGl profile for viewport 2.0? DirectX is not supported. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)
Im on the macos catalina 10.15 no directx option When i orbit around default spehere with fur hair normals are static, hair just isnt fallowing camera and they are facing whichever way
Ah right. This feature is not support no Mac either. As a workaround you can use Mesh from Strands to convert the hair to polygons and set the UVs there to Per-Strand UVs to get proper shading from root to tip. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)
wait, normals facing camera isnt working on any macos and/or graphic card?? when you have a heavy mesh and now im grroming millions of pollys the performance will be impossible to work with, i just converted beard alone on my character and performance hit is huge... Im good if it renders correctly but i cant groom when i cant see half the strands. Is this gonna be implemented or should i just get my money back?
This feature is not supported on Mac because the old OpenGL version included on Mac does not support compute shaders, which is needed for this feature to work. OpenGL is also removed from M1 and M2 Macs. In this case I only recommend using Mesh from Strands for previous, not for grooming due to its performance penalty. Unfortunately, supporting this on Mac is out of our hands. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)
OPengl on mac has been deprecated years ago, then why do you sell it to the mac users? supprted platforms are mentioned on the main page of your site, this is dishonest behaviour on the side of esphere. The question is why does esphere sell software that is broken on an entire platform knowing there wont be a fix, looking at minimum system specs knowing everything seems fine, oops the viewport display doesnt work sorry, is this a scam? I've waited months updating versions thinking it was a bug and it will be squashed, but its not a bug its a feature, now it may be too late to get a refund. IF YOU CONTINUE TO SELL THIS SOFTWARE ON A MAC THEN WARN THE USER IN THE MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS SECTION, SO THEY WONT WASTE THEIR TIME AND MONEY.
Hi again, I dont know if there is some miscommunication I see updated minimum system requirements for version 3 and 4, it now states GPU hair display mode isnt supported on mac, thats a step in good direction, but. Like I stated in the third post NONE OF THE DISPLAY OPTIONS face normals toward camera. LEGACY or OPTIMIZED DO NO NOT WORK EITHER. Since its only cpu then its safe to say that the plugin is fundamentally broken on mac platform as a whole. question is, is it a mistake again or is esphere is knowingly selling software that is broken, im willing to give the company benefit of the doubt since everyone is busy with the new release and didnt exactly get what I was saying.
| Hi, My apologies for the lack of information. The minimum requirements page in the documentation has been updated to state that this feature is not supported on Mac OS. By default the Display Mode on Mac is set to "Legacy" which is the only option that will work on Mac due to the lack of propper OpenGL support on Apple systems. The Display and Camera options are not supported in Legacy mode. Ornatrix is based on CPU processing and GPU is only used in supported systems for display options in the viewport.
