Problem

Description:

Hello,

I cross-posted this to the Redshift forums because I don't know if it's an Ornatrix issue or Redshift issue.

When generating hair from HairFromMeshStrips, then adding a RenderSettings node, it seems that none of the RenderSettings are applied in the Redshift render.  I've attached screenshots showing my setup in Maya and the render result.  No matter how I adjust the RenderSettings, the render is always the same.

I noticed this in 0.7 beta as well as 1.0.  Maybe I'm setting things up wrong?

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a poly plane

2. Assign a HairFromMeshStrips node to it

3. Add a RenderSettings node and adjust radius, tapering, etc.

4. Render in Redshift.  RenderSettings modifications do not show up in the render

Thank you for the report. This looks like something not implemented in Redshift support for Ornatrix. Can you please post a link to the forum post on Redshift webstie for this?

Thanks for the response, Marsel - here is the thread on Redshift forums: https://www.redshift3d.com/forums/viewthread/7599/

I found a clue.  If you just follow the steps above, the problem persists.  However, if you select an individual mesh strip in the HairFromMeshStrips and assign it to a group, then all strands render correctly (even on strips not assigned to the group).  It also renders correctly if you add a GroundStrands node to the HairFromMeshStrips.

[Edit] I should add that if you then revert the edited mesh strip to Group 0, the hairs still render correctly, but reloading the scene makes it broken again.  If you keep the new group setting, it seems to stay correct even on reload.  Seems like a bug?

Please see if this is resolved in the latest version 1.0.5

Oh yes, the result above was with the latest build from today.  Using Redshift 2.0.53 on Maya 2016.5, Windows 7.

Ok, we're looking into this, thank you.

This is now fixed and the fix will be available in the next redshift release.

Best,

E.

Great, thanks!

I ran into this too, looking forward to the new RS release then! thankss

Hello, I seem to be having the same problem as dsyee and manuelreyes were having here. I notice their reports are from a while ago, has this been solved?

I'm using the latest version of Redshift (2.5.72) and I'm working with the most recent demo version of Ornatrix (1.3.4.13734). So far Ornatrix looks excellent, but I'd like to get it working with Redshift before purchasing.

I tried a few different tests: converting mesh strips to hair, making a fur ball, and opening the HairCutWithGuideChannels.mb example file, and seem to be having the same problem in all of them. Attached is a screencapture showing what happens when I apply a RedshiftHair material to the HairCutWithGuideChannels scene.

I'm new to Ornatrix, so I may be making an obvious error here when trying to get it to render, but I can't figure out how to get this working. Thank you for your help!
