Problem

Description:

Hi Ornatrix Team,

First of all, thanks for the amazing Ornatrix product. I started using it since Feburary and it's been great.

I recently ran into an issue of strand group index. I found two problems I can't figure out:

1. When I assign the guides in Edit Guides into 4 groups, Id: 1,2,3,4. Some of them occasionally jump back to 0. This happened very often when I referencing my character. When I save the file, it's fine. When I close and reopen it, strand group index messed up.

2. When I reopen a file and want to change strand group index. No matter what index number I use, I can't change it.

I'm using v2.0.9.14336 and Maya 2018.2

Thanks in advance!

Shawn

Steps to Reproduce:

Hi Shawn,

Glad to hear you like Ornatrix.

I just tried referencing a file that have Ornatrix hair with 4 groups and it is working fine, I can also change the group IDs with no problem. This is in build 2.1.1.14825+ and Maya 2018.2. Please try the latest nightly build and let me know.

Correction, I can reproduce it and we are looking into it, I will keep you updated. Thank you for the report.

Thanks for your quick response Jeordanis . Look forward to the fix.

Hi Jeordanis,

After a few rounds of testing, I figured out what's going on when you reopen a maya file and the strands group index mess up.

This only happens when a the ornatrix base mesh is deformed.

I attached a sample file. When you open it, all the stand groups look fine. But if you do the following steps:

1. Scale "wrap_control" object in Y-axis (So now the Ornatrix base mesh is deformed as well because of wrap deformer)

2. Save and close the scene.

3. Reopen the scene. You can notice some strand group index jumps back to 0.

This test is based on the latest stable 2.1.1.14888.

Btw, the strand group reassign index issue is fixed. Thanks for that!

I'm currently stuck on this issue can't move forward to render the project. Would be great if the dev team can have a look of this. Thanks!

Hi Shawn,

Thank you for the extra info, though I was able to reproduce this without following your steps. The team is looking into it, I will let you know when this is fixed.

Shawn,

The issue with the strand groups and reference files should be fixed in the latest bulild, give it a try.

Hi Jeordanis,

Thanks for letting me know and dev team's effort.

However I'm still having the same issue when ornatrix base mesh is deformed, then the starnd group id change to 0. Do you mind download the scene file I attached in the previous post and follow the steps I mentioned?

I think the actuall problem is when base mesh is deformed (like wrap deformer), it will also affect the strand group index which isn't right.

Would be great if you can test the scene file. But thanks again to you and the dev team!

Cheers,

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Sorry for the delay. This issue has been solved for the latest nightly build of V2, I just tested and it seems to be solved, please give it a try.
