Hello everyone,

I'm having issues using the clump node with the Guides option, as I get this error message " // Warning: Ornatrix: Hair does not keep guide dependencies, cannot clump it to guides". I'm new to ornatrix, and fell in love with the plugin and its results and decided to test the demo.

The ramdon clumping works fine, as shown in the Ephere youtube video, however, clumping hairs to the guides gives the yellow error/notification in Maya witht the above names error.

These are my stes:

1/ create sphere geo,

2/ Attach to furball,

3/ Turn off hairfromguides and hairwidth so I can see just the guides,

4/ Add clump node, Create clump method: Random, Clump count: 31 and click create clump. It Works!

5/ Swith clump method to guides and click create clump:  NOTHING HAPPENS, just the error;   // Warning: Ornatrix: Hair does not keep guide dependencies, cannot clump it to guides"

I;m sure there's something I'm doing wrong which is causing this error, and would like any hep regarding this:

Ornatrix version 2.3.8.

Maya 2018.

Thank you.

Hello, Welcome to the forum.

This error means that the Clump operator cannot find the hairs to clump them because you deleted them with you turned OFF Hair from Guides, that's the missing dependency.

Random Clumping will create clumps from hairs or guides without any dependencies, it will create it's own clumping roots.

Guide Clumping will clump the hair TO the guides. Creating a clump for each guide.

In this case you want to clump the hairs to the guides, right? When you turn OFF Hair from Guides you are not just hidding the hairs, you are deleting them (The hair is not being generated), so the Clump operator does not have any hairs to clump. In other words, don't turn OFF Hair from Guides because you need the hairs to be able to clump them to the guides.

See the image below:

Or are you trying to clump the guides itself?

Thank you so much Jeordanis!! That makes alot of sense, and I perfectly understand now by your explanation. It didn't occur to me that the hair strands were being deleted by simply turning off the HairFromGuides node.

I tried it out now and It worked!

Thank you so much. will keep testing this out, and hopefully create a full render soon.

Cheers.

Glad I could help. Let me know if you have further questions.
