Ornatrix used as Fur, Shifting around like a bad sim

Hey, we have a Guides from mesh case where we are driving the grow mesh through a blend shape of the skinned body mesh.

for this short-haired creature we want the hair/fur to just follow the mesh static aimed from the deformed mesh.

What we are getting, is shifting fur, like it is a bad sim, it looks like it is trying to react with overlap to the deformation action of the driven grow mesh.

Please advise.

Thanks.

We tried to apply 'use face include'.    the fur is still shifting and popping all over the place.

Is this happening on Viewport, render or both? Try turning On Remember Roots Positions in Guides From Mesh.

may have found the problem.

yea, without Remember Root positions, Ornatrix crashes.

'use face include' needs to be turned on for both the guides from mesh and the hair from guides.

I will let you know if this works.

No luck.   Tones of poping and flickering.

I guess will have to convert it all to guide curves.

Is this happening on viewport or render only? If only on the render, are you rendering on a render farm?

We tried a single node render.  We are having a lot of problems with this one.

// Error: Ornatrix: Cannot generate strand 49805 because it has a non-existing guide dependency

We abandoned Guides from Mesh due to instability.

Please reply to my questions so we can move forward. I need to know if this is happning only on the viewport, the render or both.

// Error: Ornatrix: Cannot generate strand 49805 because it has a non-existing guide dependency

This errors appears when the hair object is missing a guide dependency/distribution mesh. Can you please provide the scene for testing?

In the render on the farm.

we solved the dependency issue.  the guide curves were not cubic smooth and there was a shape name conflict.. but that was after we abandoned guides from mesh and went to guides from curve.    We have a nearly working version of guide curves but it is pretty unstable.

About the flickering, the first thing I need is the problematic scene to try to reproduce it locally. Maybe I can do something if the issue is one of the operators in the stack. Sometimes there are issues that are only reproducible on a render farm, those will be more difficult for us to reproduce. In this case I'm gonna ask you to do some tests after I use up all my options on this side.
