Maya 2020.1 Export Selection not working with Ornatrix Alembic

Hi there,

‘Export selection’ isn’t working using Maya 2020.1 and any 2.5.0 version of Ornatrix. The Ornatrix alembic File is exported but doesn’t seem to contain any data. Making sure Hairshape node is selected. The file size is tiny. Using ‘Export all’ seems to produce a correct file, but obviously that isn’t the correct way to export out.

Files tested in Clarisse.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Rob

Hello. Be sure to select the hair shape in the hair stack (the last top node in the hair stack) instead of selecting the hair in the viewport.

Have made sure to always select the hair shape in the hair stack. Same result every time.

I have found a very tempoary workaround for this: Use an 'Animation Cache Operator' and save out a recorded file. Good enough to bring into clarisse.

Another question though: Whilst using the Animation Cache Operator - I tried the 'Use Render Hair' setting. Although it does outup the render hair, It doesn't seem to output the render hair animated. So you just end up with a single frame. Same happens if I select  'use render version' in the export options for 'Export All'. Single frame with no dynamic animation.

Kind regards

Hi Rob,

Sorry for the delay. When exporting the file, are you selecting Ornatrix Alembic as output file? Same when importing the file, use Ornatrix Alembic Import as input file.

I have found a very tempoary workaround for this: Use an 'Animation Cache Operator' and save out a recorded file. Good enough to bring into clarisse.

Actually this is exactly the same as using the Export Selection option. Feel free to use this option.

About your second question, it depends, are you using Moov Physics before or after Hair From Guides?

Hi Jeordanis,

Sorry too, Only got a chance to have a look at the issue again now.

Moving the dynamics/Moov Physics node just above the 'Guides for mesh' node fixed both problems. Thanks for mentioning that. When I looked through the documentation I didn't see that specified in the instructions.

Many thanks for the help - great to see everything working!

Regards

Rob

Old topic I know but I recently solved this in max by choosing export instead of export selected. Hopefully it we'll be a solution for anyone else having this problem.
