There is only one video by Marsel about clumping in V3, and it does not address my questions about clumping.
1- Can I select a number of Hair Guides, and Clump them? It crashed Maya 2020.2 first time i tried it. In the video, he selects the hair when "FurballShape1" is active. I dont like it, because selecting process becomes harder. I prefer clumping but hair guide. The second time i tried it, ornatrix wont let me clump it. See screenshot ( EditGuides1 is active while i push Clump button ).

okay, forget about the attached pic. I want to use just ONE GuidefromMesh. And i am not going for animated character, so it is for still image. If i put a single Clump Node, then every thing is clumped into one. I need to have 3 separate Clump Node for the bang, the back, and the right hair. I imagine i would also need another sub Clump inside each clump / or nested clump in order to make the hair look more realistic. I saw a tutorial about nested Clump for V2, but there is not any for v3. How to tell ornatrix that Clump1 is just for the bang, Clump2 is for the back hair, Clump3 for the right hair, Clump4 is for smaller clumps inside Clump1... and so forth.

no, they dont work the same between v2 and v3. Generating clumpsClumps need to be generated manually by selecting a method for generation and clicking the Create Clumps button. Once they are generated they will remain until you either edit them or delete them. The generated clump data will remain stored with the operator.
Clumping to guidesYou can create clumps based on the guides which were used to generate the hair. For this you need to have a Hair from Guides operator below Clump operator in the hair stack. If the hair was not created from guides, for example if Hair From Mesh Strips or Baked Hair operators are used, then this method of clump generation will not work. To clump hairs to guides:
When the hair guides change shape (for example, when they are animated) the clumps will automatically follow their shape as long as the Clump Create Method is set to Guides.
See, i want to create a clump out of 3 selected hair guides. How do i start doing that? The tutorial by Marsel did not touch this. I dont want to select the resulting hair and create clumps out of them like in the tutorial, because it does not seem to be very accurate. Instead of selecting hair strand, i want to select Hair Guides and make a clump out of it.
Advise please. Thank you

Hi,
In THIS page about the new changes in the UI you can see that the access to all nodes has been moved to a separate menu, out of the shelf. In this menu you can find and add any Ornatrix node as before. This is to allow easier access to the tools. In this menu you can find and add the Clump node like in V2. Additionally, a Clump node will be automatically added to the stack when you use the Clump Editing tool. This is IF you have a hair shape selected. Otherwise it will show a warning: // Warning: Ornatrix: Please select a node first //
In other words, you can add it manually or the clump editing tool will add it for you. Once the Clump node it's in the stack you can either use the Clump Editing tool or generate the clumps using the options in the Attribute Editor. I hope this is clear now.
If you want to generate a clump from a particular set of guides, you can assign a stand group to those guides and set it in the Strand Group field of the Clump node. Then set the Generation Method to random and Clump Count to 1. This is generate 1 clump out of tree guides as you expect.
The Clump Editing Tool is based on selection: You select a bunch of hair strands, set a Clump Count and the click Generate Clumps. If you create custom clumps using this method, then you try to create random clumps or clumps based on guides using the Atrtibute Editor, this will of course destroy your custom clumps. Have that in mind. Both procedures of creating clumps are shown here:
If you get any error or warning while trying any of this please paste it here. I hope this is useful.

I really dont understand that. Does that mean i have to 1- assign strandgroup to the selected guide 2- select hair strand and follow marsel's instruction video and create a clump node, while keeping in mind that the step i take in here wont have anything to do with the hair guides i want to clump 3- use the resulting clump node from 2, and tell it to just use strand group i created in 1

i followed your instruction but it didnt work. The clump node, after setting the ( apply by group ) Strand Group to 1 ( 1 is my strand group i want to clump ), the system ignored Strand Group 1 and just clump hair strand i selected in order to create the Clump node in the first place.
Advise please! Is this another bug? Or is it because i dont understand your instruction?

Hi, Sorry, I missed your last reply. To be honest I'm very lost here and I'm not sure if I understand what you need. I will take a step back to see if we can reach a conclusion.
You want to clump the guides, not the hair, right? We don't have an operator but you can use the experimental Clump brush. You can find the clump brush in the User-Defined Brushes roll out in the brush settings when you select the User Brush. In your image I see that you are trying to clump guides. This is not possible, at least not in the way that you see in the video because those tools are designed to work on hairs. Do you want to make a feature request? 2 - How to have multiple Clumps? Lets say i want to have two clump settings. One clump for the bang, another clump for the rest. How to separate / create new Clump node? Currently it just modify the only clump node, if i tried to create another clump. So, let's say you have a single groom with different areas, and you want to add different clump settings to them. Select the guides of the bangs and add a strand group to them. Select the rest and add a different strand groups to them. Add two Clump nodes, in one of them set the same strand group that you added to the bangs, in the second clump node set the strand group that you added to the rest of the guides. If I understood correctly this will give you exactly what you want. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)
