Please take a look at my screenshot. I added a new guide, but by default ornatrix assigned in to Strand Group "3". I want to change it to '2".

I select this particular Guide, go to Strand Groups Menu, and tried to assign "2", but it doesnt work.

Is this a bug? If yes how to do a work around?

Did i do something wrong? Advise please.

When you enter the number, if you don't hit the Enter/Return key the value is not actually send to the Attribute Editor template. So the steps are:

  1. Enter the number,
  2. Hit Enter,
  3. Click Assign.

i tried it.Select the guide. Enter number for strand group. Enter. Click Assign.

DIDNT WORK.

Advise please?

it turned out that it didnt work for this particular hair guide ( one hair guide ) only. I tried on the other guides and it worked as you suggested. it may be a bug. do you want me to send you my file in case you guys need to investigate this further?

i want to delete this particular root and planet a new one. shessh it is problematic.

Deleting roots

To remove guides from your groom first select them inside the viewport and then press the Delete Selected Strands button. Using keyboard Delete button will not work because Ornatrix has a custom way of handling element deletion in shapes. Therefore, you need to use this button instead.

why is it so hard to find the delete selected strand button? is this documentation for v2 only or what?

Yes, please send me the file. Try to simplify it as much as possible. Remove everything in the scene that is not related to the problem, even shaders and lights, also nodes that are not needed to reproduce the issue, remove all the guides except the one that is unable to accept a strand group. Send the scene to jeordanis. f (at) ephere .com, include a link to this post in the email.

The command that you are looking for is documented for every version. Assuming that you are using V3, HERE is the documentation for Edit Guides. There you can find information about all the commands used with Edit Guides, including "Delete Selected Strands" command.

you should move all options in Roots to Guide Options. it will make it easier for users to find all of the related buttons.

hide, unhide all, freeze, unfreeze all, should be grouped into one.

plant guide, rotate, push away, delete selected, group these four together.

the interface is done by people who dont know human and computer interaction. you guys should hire one.

you even have "soft selection" in edit guides, while maya already has soft selection in its tool settings!

this is the problem guide. email is sent.

i think the guide that cannot be re-assigned to a new strand group is the guide i planted my self using the plant new guide tool.

please check into that.

i am looking for a way to pre-assign strand group setting before i plant a new strand, because i know this newly planted strand cannot be reassigned into another strand group. but couldnt find an effective way to do this.

In Ornatrix we have tools that act on roots and tools that act on guides. We have to make this distinction.

hide, unhide all, freeze, unfreeze all, should be grouped into one.

There are all grouped together under the Guide Operations section.

plant guide, rotate, push away, delete selected, group these four together.

See me first point. This would be a mix of guide tools and root tools.

Maya's default Soft Selection is designed to act on polygon elements: vertices, adges, faces, etc... Ornatrix doesn't use any of those, it uses its own data types. This means that a tool designed to work on vertices will not work with Ornatrix guides or strands.

Thanks for the scene. We can reproduce the issue and the team it's working on it.

Good idea. Maybe allow auto strand group assignment in the Plant Guide tool. We will look into that in the future.

plant guide and delete guide should be together. both is like add root and delete root. it doesnt make any sense that they are separated too far from each other.

i think i am getting to understand the limitation of building a plugin as complex as this in a system that was not designed from the ground up for a specific workflow.

i also am getting more understanding on how you group these tools. but still, adding or planting a root and deleting a root should be together. and all of these should be positioned / located above "apply ramp". see, everytime i need to add a root i have to scroll down. after brushing,  want to delete? click and scroll down first. later, want to rotate a guide? click and scroll down first. i do too many scrolling down to reach these functionalities.

The strand grouo assignment issue has been solved for the latest nightly build. Please give it a try.

Thank you for your feedback about the UI. We will discuss this internally and do a review in the near future.

i dont see nightly build for windows.

Keep an eye in the download page. It will be online as soon as the build test passes.
