I am trying to cache out an animation including all the hair; I assume the 'Record Render Hair' checkbox is for this, but no file is output. Without the checkbox ticked, the cache is saved with no problem. I have started a test project just making a simple sphere attaching hair, adding moovphysics and then the Animation Cache node but when the Record Render Hair button is checked I get the same problem. I also notice that it is calculating something, but it displays a black and white non simulated clone of the hair, and from then onwards even after deleting the cache the physics no longer work. Is there a solution or workaround for this? Thanks in advance.

I have attached a screenshot of the 'black and white clone'. After this clone appears I cannot remove it even when deleting the AnimationCache node from the stack, I also forgot to mention that the colored hair strands are shown but they do not move (they move properly when the checkbox for Record Render Hair is not ticked). I feel it's a bit unclear because the function isn't mentioned in the documentation. If it is unchecked, does that mean that it only saves the viewed hairs? Even if the cache seems to work, it sometimes doesn't even save a cache file (it does play the cache, where is it saved if there isn't a file?). It seems random when it generates a cache.. The Operator Stack is also shown in the screenshot.

Hello, Sorry for the delay. I can reproduce the issue that happens when Record Render Hair it's activated, we are looking into that. Have in mind that you are using Hair from Mesh Strips. As you know this type of hair isn't attached to a distribution surface like a scalp, so the simulation could work incorectly because it doesn't have a mesh dependency(The roots are not attached to a scalp). You may need to fix this using Ground Strands. Jeordanis Figuereo (Product Designer. EPHERE Inc.)

Thanks for the reply. I have worked around the problem by tweaking the View Percentage to 100% on final simulation and making sure to save out a new cache every time, as if I do not change the name of the cache every time it seems to not save anything. I would use Ground Strands, but it destroys the shape of the hair and I eoncountered overall instability so I cannot use it. |
